Hamilton College

Henry attended Hamilton College from 1912-19161. While there he was on the Hamilton Literary Magazine Lit Board. Below are images of some of Henry’s writings while at Hamilton, as well as a photo of the lit board from 1914-15. Some of the writings in this are pasted onto the pages while others are typed directly onto the pages. Many of the writings are dated and are not in all chronological order. This suggests that this book was created after everything was written. The intention of this book was to house Henry’s writings from this period in his life in order to keep them preserved and accessible for the future.

I selected three writing samples from the book. One of them is a poem A Sonnet to Spring, although there are many poems in this book, this is one of the only sonnets. The next piece of writing in entitled Collegiata, and the third piece is Alma Mater, which was published in the Hamiltonian, a yearbook dedicated to the senior class2, in 1916.

While working on his autobiography, Henry wrote short passages about certain stages of his life1. Below is the passage he wrote about his time at Hamilton College.
